About
Historical ramblings on various topics having to do with the United Kingdom, Ireland and isles that make up the British Isles. Run by an American university history student studying this topic.

In 1943, in the middle of World War II, Winston Churchill requested a platypus be sent from Australia to be kept at the London Zoo. The thought process behind this strange act was to boost morale of the country (by seeing an exotic animal never before seen live in London) as well as a way to improve British-Australian relations. Unfortunately the platypus died in transport.
